VDO Speedometers
A VDO electronic speedometer takes its signal from a pulse generator on the gearbox or a wheel and turns the pulse count into road speed, using the pulses-per-kilometre figure set on the gauge. The speedometers listed here come from three VDO ranges: ViewLine in 85 mm and 110 mm, SingleViu in 80 mm and 100 mm, and the 140 mm Cockpit Vision speedometer for commercial vehicles. Dial spans run from 60 km/h for slow plant and farm vehicles up to 300 km/h, with miles-per-hour faces for imported vehicles and a ViewLine pitot speedometer that reads to 50 knots on a boat.
Choose the dial size from the hole in the panel, then the range, so that your normal working speed sits in the readable middle of the dial. ViewLine and SingleViu speedometers marked 12V/24V run on either system, while the Cockpit Vision units are built for 12 V or 24 V, so check the voltage on the listing. Some SingleViu part numbers are sold as the gauge only, without the connector harness, and the product name says so.
Every speedometer needs a pulse generator matched to its input. Where the gearbox has an M22 speedo-cable port, a screw-in sender takes the place of the cable; where it does not, a probe-type generator reads a toothed wheel. The pulse generators page lists both types, and the speedometer fitting guide covers setting the w/km value.
