VDO Pressure Gauges

VDO pressure gauges read oil pressure, turbo boost, air brake pressure, transmission pressure and vacuum. Oil pressure gauges come in 5 bar and 10 bar spans (also printed as 500 and 1 000 kPa), plus 80 psi and 150 psi faces. Boost gauges read to 2 bar, brake gauges to 10 bar or 150 psi, and transmission gauges to 25 bar or 400 psi. Pick the span so the needle sits near the middle of the dial at normal running pressure.

Most of the range is electrical, 52 mm and fed by a pressure sender: Cockpit International and Cockpit Vision gauges for 12 V or 24 V, and ViewLine and SingleViu gauges that run on both. The SingleViu listings print the sender resistance they expect, 10 to 184 ohm, so you can match the sender before fitting. Cockpit International also has mechanical gauges, including a 7 bar and a 10 bar gauge, a pressure and vacuum gauge from -1 to +1.5 bar and a 30 inHg vacuum gauge, which read the pressure through a pipe with no sender or wiring.

For an electrical gauge, order the sender with the same span. A 10 bar sender on a 5 bar gauge shows half the real pressure, which is the sort of reading that hides a failing oil pump. The pressure senders page lists VDO senders by span, thread and warning contact.
