VDO Marine Instruments

A helm needs a few instruments that a vehicle never does. The VDO marine gauges on this page are from the ViewLine range, which uses the same dial style and wiring as the ViewLine automotive gauges, so a boat can run one matching set from the tachometer to the trim gauge. They run on 12 V and 24 V unless the listing says otherwise.

The 85 mm rudder angle gauge shows helm position, paired with a VDO rudder angle sender: a single-station sender on the 10-180 ohm standard, or a dual-station sender on 5-90 ohm for boats steered from two helms. The 52 mm trim gauge suits Bravo-type drives. The synchronizer gauge shows the speed difference between two engines within 500 rpm, so a twin-engine boat can be balanced by eye. Boat speed comes from the sumlog gauge or the pitot speedometer, both reading to 50 knots.

For tanks, the ViewLine fresh water and waste water kits include the gauge and a 600 mm sender. For engine instruments at the helm, use the ViewLine tachometers, temperature, pressure and voltmeter pages, and read the marine instrumentation guide on signal sources and earthing before fitting.
