VDO Fuel and Tank Level Senders

A fuel level sender measures the tank and gives the gauge a resistance that changes with the level. VDO makes two styles. Tubular senders sit vertically in the tank and read through a float on a reed-switch chain; they suit deep or baffled tanks and are sold by length. Lever-arm senders swing a float on an arm, need room to swing, and suit shallow tanks.

The tubular senders on this page fit a 54 mm flange in lengths from 150 mm to 800 mm, with heavy-duty 80 mm versions up to 1 086 mm for truck and plant tanks. Most read across a 90 ohm to 3 or 4 ohm span, the tubular standard, while the adjustable lever-arm sender covers 145 to 400 mm tank depths and reads 2.5 to 180 ohm. Check that the gauge uses the same standard, or the reading runs backwards.
