VDO Fuel and Tank Level Gauges

A fuel gauge reads the resistance of the sender in the tank, so the gauge and the sender have to use the same resistance standard. VDO uses two. The 3-180 ohm standard pairs with lever-arm senders, and the 90-3 ohm standard pairs with tubular senders. They run in opposite directions, so a gauge built for one standard on a sender built for the other shows full on an empty tank. Every fuel gauge on this page names its standard in the title.

The range covers 52 mm gauges from Cockpit International, built for 12 V or 24 V, Cockpit Vision in 12 V with spin-ring or stud and bracket mounting, ViewLine, and SingleViu for 12 V and 24 V systems. SingleViu adds an AdBlue (DEF) level gauge and a 0-5 V input gauge for tanks fitted with an electronic level sensor. For boats and caravans, the ViewLine fresh water and waste water kits come with a 600 mm sender in the box.

To order, read the ohm range off the old gauge or sender, measure the tank depth for the sender, and match the dial size to the panel. The fuel level senders page lists tubular senders cut to length, lever-arm senders and the gaskets and flange adaptors that go with them.
