VDO Voltmeters and Ammeters
A voltmeter is the simplest gauge on the panel because it needs no sender: it reads the supply directly. VDO builds them for the system voltage, with an 8 to 16 V scale for 12 V vehicles and a 16 to 32 V scale for 24 V trucks, buses and plant. A healthy charging system shows roughly 13.5 to 14.5 V on a 12 V vehicle with the engine running, and a reading that sits low points to the alternator, the belt or a poor connection.
Ammeters show the current flowing into or out of the battery. The VDO ammeters listed here read 30 A, 60 A, 100 A and 150 A, and the ViewLine range has separate ammeter shunts rated 30 A, 60 A and 100 A at 60 mV. Where an ammeter reads through a shunt, the shunt rating has to match the ammeter scale, and the shunt carries the heavy current so the gauge wiring stays light.
All the gauges on this page are 52 mm. Cockpit International and Cockpit Vision voltmeters are built for one system voltage, and SingleViu sells its 24 V voltmeter as the gauge only or with the harness. Match the scale to your system and the dial size to the panel, and the ViewLine and SingleViu ammeters run on 12 V or 24 V.
