VDO Hour Meters
An hour meter counts engine running time, which is how gensets, tractors, boats, compressors and earthmoving plant are serviced. It runs whenever it has power, so it is wired to a supply that is live only while the engine runs, typically the ignition or an oil pressure switch, and it keeps the total when power is removed.
The Cockpit International hour meters on this page are 52 mm and come in 12 V, 24 V and 12/24 V versions, with a minute hand on some and illumination on others for night work. If your panel is short on space, the ViewLine tachourmeter puts a tachometer and an hour counter in one 85 mm or 110 mm gauge, in 3 000, 4 000, 6 000 and 8 000 rpm scales for diesel and petrol engines. They run on 12 V and 24 V.
When you replace an hour meter on a machine with a service history, record the old reading first and keep it with the service records, because a new meter starts from zero. Match the voltage, choose between a separate hour meter and a tachourmeter, and check the panel cutout before ordering.
